Shingle and painted metal roofs get a hot, low pressure soft wash that lifts the algae off the panel instead of forcing water up under it.

That green on your roof is not dirt. It is mold, and it does not stop on its own.

The black streaks running down a shingle roof are the same thing. Algae takes hold on the shaded side, feeds on the shingle, and spreads a little further every wet season. Moss and lichen move in behind it and hold water against the roof long after the rain has quit.

A roof like that does not usually need replacing. It needs treating, by somebody who knows the difference. One soft wash takes off:

Soft washed, never blasted.

High pressure tears granules off a shingle and drives water up under a metal panel. So the pressure stays low. The treatment goes on hot, sits long enough to kill what is growing, and a gentle rinse carries it off. The roof comes clean without taking a beating.

Painted metal

Metal roofs get their colour back.

Painted metal grows the same film, and older panels oxidise to a chalky grey on top of it. Washed hot and at low pressure, the panel colour comes back without the paint coming with it.

Will washing the roof damage my shingles?

Is the green on my roof just dirt?
